Mughal and Rajasthani miniature paintings often portray graceful royal women, or nayikas, surrounded by intricate details and expressive settings, and many of these artworks include written text in scripts such as Devanagari or Persian/Urdu. These languages were commonly used in historical manuscripts, court records, poetry, and religious texts of the time. The writing was added to describe the scene, narrate a story, express poetry about love or seasons, or record verses connected to the artwork. Together, the elegant figures, ornate clothing, and decorative text create a rich cultural composition that reflects the artistic, literary, and royal traditions of classical Indian miniature art.
